Pre-College Education Program
The MSGC Precollege Education Program supports projects that encourage and enrich the study of mathematics, science, or technology for K-12 students and teachers. Proposals are reviewed by the Board and are evaluated on the basis of the development, implementation, and/or testing of activities or supplementary resources that meet the National Standards for Mathematics, Science and Technology education as well as State education requirements. Preference is given to projects focusing on aerospace, space, or Earth system science. Applicants are encouraged to propose collaborative efforts that include partners from colleges and universities, small businesses and industry, K-12 educational institutions, and community groups. The MSGC also strongly encourages the development of programs that target women, underrepresented minorities and people with disabilities by offering additional funding to proposals targeting these groups. Applicants may propose individual projects to one category or all categories simultaneously, depending on the scope and relevance of their project. Those currently funded through this program are welcome to reapply for continuation funding.
Notes about methodology used in reporting participation and project costs across pre-college, informal education, and higher education activities: Due to the manner in which MSGC awards its funding, the reporting of programs is complicated. Several factors, including (i) the augmentation funding that MSGC offers across several programs for targeting underrepresented minorities and (ii) the fact that MSGC provides funding for multiple activities in one award, and (iii) multiple subcontracts are in no-cost-extensions, make it impossible at this point to report the exact amounts of funding and expenses per activity area. For the purpose of this report, therefore, each award has been assigned to one activity based on the best overlap of programming. This allows a reasonable reporting of the overall expenses and cost-sharing for an award and helps prevent double-counting of participants. Encumbrances may be included in the expenditures. The data in this section represents the activities of four different awards, combined by the main office. For that reason, I am listed as the activity contact person.
