Maine Space Grant Consortium
Fellowship and Scholarship Program

The goal of the Fellowships and Scholarships (F/S) Program is to increase participation of undergraduate and graduate students in interdisciplinary STEM research conducted at the Affiliates. We fund only fellowships since we require students to work on a research project to be eligible for an award. Disciplines are broad and include Engineering, and Behavioral, Biological, Computer, Information, Physical, and Social Sciences. We use performance-based criteria to allocate annual funding to each participating academic affiliate. Criteria include student enrollment, fulfillment of its affiliate Representatives responsibilities, use of prior years allocation, and responsiveness to our requests for information. Maximum funding is $3,000 per undergraduate and $6,000 per graduate student, and students must meet the 160-hour minimum threshold.
Our programs support students in NASA-related research projects. Students are mentored by faculty at their respective institution and are encouraged to identify a NASA mentor. Participating institutions run in-house competitions based on the same cohesive guidelines that the Consortium established for all participating institutions. Following the Consortium guidelines, each institution tailors its program to reflect the needs and interests of its students and faculty. Participating institutions include the University of Maine, University of Southern Maine, University of New England, the Maine Maritime Academy, Bowdoin College, College of the Atlantic, Saint Josephs College of Maine, York County Community College and the Southern Maine Community College.
