KSU Pre-college STEM enrichment program

Program Type: Pre-College

The Kennesaw State University STEM Enrichment Program has a long and successful track record of engaging students from the Cobb County Alternative High School program with hands-on exercises in STEM fields. The goal of the program is to teach scientific fundamentals that encompass a variety of disciplines, to relate scientific concepts to real applications, and finally, to get secondary students excited about enrolling in STEM programs at a post-secondary level leading to careers in STEM fields. The program has grown to a total of 24 students, accompanied by two high-school teachers, meeting each Friday over the course of each four-week session. There are four of these sessions over the course of an academic year, for a total of 16 sessions and 96 students. During the sessions, KSU undergraduate students trained by university faculty direct interactive lab experiments and take on the role of mentors to the secondary students.
