Program Type: Pre-College

The Governors Institute in the Mathematical Sciences takes place at the University of Vermont. The goals of the GIV Math are providing educational enrichment, intervention in college and career planning and exposing students to peers who are also enthusiastic about mathematics. It is hoped that the students leave GIV Math with expanded horizons in the mathematical sciences, expanded career goals and a sense of the community of mathematics. Top students in the State are to attend the Institute and room and board are covered by the Vermont State Mathematics Coalition. The other participants are selected from students who have applied directly to the Governors Institutes. Selections are based on the application form, letters of recommendation and an essay. Students who have studied a reasonable amount of mathematics already, show ability and most importantly show sincere interest in mathematics are offered admission to GIV Math.
