Cheyney Univ STEM Research Programs

Program Type: Higher Education

Cheyney University, an HBCU with a considerable portion of students enrolled as first-generation college students, is expanding opportunities for educational enrichment, professional skills development and research experience for undergraduate students in NASA research areas in biology, chemistry, computer science and mathematics. In 2014 the University opened a state-of-the-art Science Center equipped with teaching laboratories in biology, chemistry and computer science, a faculty research laboratory, and a planetarium with 30-foot dome. As a space grant affiliate, the University aims to provide a foundation in core science and technology concepts. Individual learning opportunities take the shape of supervised research in labs on campus and supervised internships in a range of offices and agencies located in the surrounding metropolitan Philadelphia area and in other parts of the nation. One part of the project will support students who utilize the new planetarium to present shows to the University community and to visiting K-12 student groups.
