Maryland Space Grant Consortium

Liftoff + Space Camp

Program Type: Pre-College

The NASA Texas Space Grant Consortium conducts weeklong professional development training for teachers. This aerospace workshop, called LiftOff, emphasizes science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) learning experiences by incorporating a space science theme supported by NASA missions. Teacher participants are provided with information and experiences through speakers, hands-on activities and field investigations that promote space science and enrichment activities for themselves and others. The 2018 workshop was entitled Reach New Heights, Reveal the Unknown, Benefit All Humankind. During this reporting cycle, MDSGC supported one Maryland teacher to participate.

Space Camp helps with the national effort to expose educators to the science and research behind the American Space Program, in order for teachers to bring that experience back to their students and their schools. Space Academy for Educators offers approximately 45 curriculum hours comprising intensive classroom, laboratory, and training time. In this reporting cycle, MDSGC sponsored one Maryland teacher to participate.
