Indiana Space Grant Consortium

BSU Sci Engineering Video Game

Program Type: Higher Education

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the historic Apollo 11 mission, Dr. Gestwicki will work with a small team of students to develop an original educational game about the Space Race. The game will feature important people, events, technologies, and discoveries related to the space race, from Sputnik and Apollo 11 through to the International Space Station. We anticipate the game being appropriate for ages 12 and up, and we hope to make a version of the game
available for free or very low cost to schools.

The team will follow best practices of educational game design, using rapid prototyping, frequent playtesting, and educational consultants to ensure the product has the highest quality. We will be able to leverage additional support from the faculty and staff of the Ball State University Serious Games Knowledge Group, students involved in Dr. Gestwickiâs Game Design and Development Research Group, and colleagues from Indianaâs game design and development community. We also expect to be able to utilize Ball Stateâs new and unique relationship with Muncie Community Schools to assist with playtesting, feedback, and distribution.
