UHM Astronaut Recognition Days

The Astronaut Ellison Onizuka Science Day, the Astronaut Lacy Veach Day of Discovery and the Onizuka Day of Exploration honor the legacy of Hawaiis two astronauts. Each day features a keynote speaker (an astronaut, a Polynesian navigator, a scientist or other noteworthy contributor to science and culture), 20 hands on STEM workshops, 15 interactive displays and a robotics tournament). With generous community sponsors and hosts, the Astroanut Onizuka and Astronaut Veach Days each is provided free to the public in which each has 600 registered students, parents, teachers and 150 volunteers. The Onizuka Day of Exploration had 7,000 student, parent and other participants. Students are provided with new STEM experiences while parents and teachers link with community organizations and individuals who are contributors to science education in Hawaii.
