Graduate Fellowships

Program Type: Research Program

Provides funding for graduate students working on a thesis or dissertation with faculty from Affiliate member institutions. These one-year Fellowships are awarded competitively to graduate students as well as undergraduate seniors who have been admitted to a graduate program in a math, science, or engineering discipline who desire to participate in a research project either during the academic year or in the summer. A faculty member from the applicants department, preferably students thesis advisor, must agree to serve as a mentor and research advisor for the described projects. Each award is for $12,000. Masters students may receive up to two years of support while Ph.D. students are limited to a maximum of three years of support. These awards must be supplemented by a 1:1 cost share by the applicants home institution. Graduate tuition waiver by the college/university, and documented time spent by the faculty to mentor the student, may be counted toward fulfillment of the cost share requirement. Brief quarterly reports and a final report are required. NASA funds may not be used for equipment or foreign travel. Female and minority students are strongly encouraged to apply.
