North Dakota Space Grant Consortium
Educator Professional Development

The pre-service workshops include NASA resources that the students will be able to use in their classrooms once they become teachers. Each workshop is conducted by the deputy director and coordinator of the North Dakota Space Grant Consortium, and each workshop has a different theme, like human spaceflight, robotics, microgravity, mission to Mars, or current NASA missions. The first part of the workshop is providing the pre-service teachers with multiple online resources that they can use, and helping them to navigate the websites. The pre-service teachers are also given educational posters to display in their classrooms along with other NASA materials. During the second part of the workshop, attendees complete a hands-on activity in groups or as individuals that is a NASA-provided activity following the overall theme of the workshop. These workshops occur at affiliate colleges throughout the state and go on all year round. Also included are funding for two teachers to attend Educator Space Camp, held in Marshall Space Flight Center. They meet astronauts, learn hands-on STEM activities, and take back valuable inquiry-based lesson plans back to their (most likely rural) school districts.
